Duration: 14 Days
Days 1-2 | After an overnight flight, normally with a change of planes in Lima, you arrive in Cuzco. Here you will be met and driven down to your own private villa, the Green House, in the Sacred Valley where you will stay for 7 nights. This stylish villa offers fabulous views and a very high standard of comfort together with your own guide and driver and a chef. |
Day 3 | Your holiday begins with an E-Bike ride along the Sacred Valley of the Incas from Pisac to Ollantaytambo: Firstly you will visit the fabulous Inca ruins of Pisac and the town's artisan market. Then from the village of Taray you will have a wonderful relaxed cycle ride along the Sacred Valley, following a scenic track beside the Urubamba River, all the way to Ollantaytambo a pretty town with perfectly preserved Inca ruins. |
Day 4 | Rafting is today's activity on the Black Canyon section of the Apurimac River. This will be a real day of adventure when you will be rewarded with a mixture of gentle floats and some world class rapids, spectacular views and and lunch on a deserted beach. A full rafting briefing, all your rafting gear and a safety boat will be provided. |
Day 5 | After a busy few days you will have a free morning when you may chill out or just relax in the garden with a book. In the afternoon you will head off for a bit of sightseeing on the Chinchero plain above the Sacred Valley. Firstly you drive up to visit the little town of Chinchero famous for its artisan market, wonderful colonial church and Inca ruins. Then you will visit the fascinating circular Inca ruins of Moray, believed to have been Inca experimental agricultural centre used to improve high altitude crops. From there you continue to the ancient town of Maras, with its out-standing Spanish door arches and a vast church. Maras also has the most amazing salt-pans, the Salinas, believed to have been worked since pre Inca time. |
Day 6 | Today you have an exciting day on your electric bike, taking you off the beaten track to the lovely Lares Valley and on to the town of Calca. First you drive on a quiet road up to over 4000m before setting off on your E-bikes into the valley. Passing the village of Huaca Huasi, you will descend on a good dirt road to the town of Lares, famous for its weaving, traditional customs, and its hot springs. You may enjoy a quick dip in the medicinal springs whilst enjoying lunch. Then, assisted by your bike's electric motor you make an epic zig zag climb up to the Abra Lares at 4300m. Your reward is a fantastic long descent of 1,300 metres, downhill all the way to Calca! This is an epic day of adventure cycling through stunning scenery and beautiful villages, untouched by mass tourism. |
Day 7 | Today is a classic day of adventure activities in wonderful surroundings. You have various options today - you might visit beautiful Huaypo lake to try your hand at some kayaking or paddle boarding - you will be given full instruction! Here you will enjoy time stunning Andean scenery and the quiet and tranquility of Lake Huaypo. Alternatively you have the choice of a couple of lovely day hikes - you could trek down from the Inca ruins at Chinchero to reach the town of Huallabamba, or make the hike to the remote Inca ruins of Huchuy Qosqo, a mysterious site about which little is known - which is one of the real gems of the Cuzco area. |
Day 8 | It's Machu Picchu day today! You catch the early train but will alight at Kilometre 104 to start the walk up past the interesting ruins at Chachabamba and long an ancient Inca trail, up through tropical cloud forest and high above the roaring Urubamba River. After an initially challenging ascent you reach Wiñay Wayna, a beautiful Inca ruin full of swallows and orchids where you will have a picnic lunch. You then walk the last spectacular part of the Inca Trail through cloud forest to arrive at Inti Punku, ‘the Gateway of the Sun’ and your first glimpse of Machu Picchu. After savouring the moment you will have an extensive tour of the ruins before taking a bus back down to Machu Picchu town where you will take the train back to the Sacred Valley. |
Day 9 | After after a busy few days you will have a free day in the Sacred Valley. If you want an activity your guide and driver will be at your disposal for some further sightseeing, or you might just prefer to chill out and relax in the beautiful gardens of your villa. |
Day 10 | Another classic Andean adventure today with a trek to see the fabled Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain deep in the heart of the Vilcanota Mountain range. You will be well acclimatised by now and well prepared for this hike. Our chosen route is an ideal way to enjoy the magical coloured mountains with a relatively short trail, minimal incline (only 150 metres of ascent and descent) and without the crowds. On a clear day you can see the snow-capped peak of Ausangate and enjoy fine views of this spectacular montainous region. You will descend from Rainbow Mountain and drive to the stunning lake Pomacanchis where you will make a comfortable camp for the night. |
Day 11 | In the morning you will enjoy some kayaking on beautiful Lake Pomanchis. Later you will drive to the trek start point above Pitamurca and meet your mule team. You will then set off on trek (about 4 hours), following an ancient Inca trail to reach the enigmatic ruins of Waqrapucara, an impressive site high above the Apurimac River where you will camp for the night. |
Day 12 | You trek to Huayqui Village (about 3 hrs), mainly flat or downhill and meet your transport at Calcci for the drive to Cuzco. After the exertions of your trek, Cuzco is the ideal place to relax and spend the last night of your holiday. There are numerous restaurants and bars to tempt you and you'll stayi n a super comfortable hotel in the centre of the town. |
Days 13-14 | You will have the morning in Cuzco for some final sightseeing or shopping before you will be taken to the airport for your overnight flight home. We would of course be happy to arrange additional nights in Cuzco if you wish. |
